Schueco uPVC tilt and turn windows
Inward-opening windows that tilt for ventilation and swing open for cleaning, built on Schueco's 70 mm Corona CT 70 profile. Supplied glazed and ready to install.
How tilt and turn works
One handle, two ways to open. With the handle turned 90°, the sash swings into the room on side hinges. At 180°, it tilts inward from the top, leaving a gap of a few centimetres for airflow while the window stays held in place.
Closed, the handle drives mushroom-head locking cams around the whole sash, pulling it tight against two continuous gasket levels. That's what gives tilt and turn windows their airtightness and their resistance to forced entry: up to RC 2 with Schueco VarioTec hardware and safety glass.
VarioTec also offers a parallel vent position. The whole sash moves in by about 6 mm, so air can flow while the window stays locked at RC 2.
Why specify them
- Ventilation without an open window. The tilt position lets air in at night or in the rain without leaving the opening unsecured.
- Cleaning from inside. Both faces of the glass can be cleaned from the room, which matters above ground floor and in apartments.
- Fixed flyscreens. The sash opens inward, so screens can stay fixed on the outside.
- Large sashes. Reinforced CT 70 sashes go up to 2400 mm high and 90 kg, enough for heavy triple glazed units.
- Consistent sight lines. Tilt and turn, fixed and casement units share the same CT 70 frame, so elevations stay uniform.
Things to plan for
The sash opens into the room. Check clearance for blinds, curtains, benchtops and furniture. Where fall protection applies, use tilt-before-turn hardware, restrictors, or Schueco's glass or bar barriers, which fit CT 70 windows. We'll flag openings on your schedule where this needs a decision.

FAQ
Questions from builders and architects
How does a tilt and turn window work?
One handle controls two opening modes. Turn the handle 90° and the sash swings inward on side hinges, like a door. Turn it 180° and the sash tilts inward from the top for ventilation. Closing the window and turning the handle down locks it at several points around the frame.
What is a tilt-before-turn window?
A variant where the first handle position tilts the window and the second turns it. It's a common choice for children's bedrooms and upper floors because the everyday position is the safer tilt.
Can you fit flyscreens to tilt and turn windows?
Yes. The sash opens inward, so a flyscreen can be fixed on the outside of the frame without getting in the way of the window.
Do tilt and turn windows comply with fall-protection rules?
Where the NCC requires openable windows to be restricted, for example bedroom windows high above the ground, the turn function needs a restrictor or a barrier. Tell us which openings are affected and we'll specify the hardware for them.
Are tilt and turn windows suitable for Australian conditions?
They're the standard window in much of Europe, including hot southern regions. The sealed frame and multi-point locking keep out heat, dust and noise, and the tilt or parallel vent positions let air in while the window stays secured.
