uPVC windows supplier in Wollongong and the Illawarra
The Illawarra is a narrow strip between the escarpment and the sea. Sites at the top of a street can be bushfire-prone while those at the bottom take salt spray. We supply Schueco uPVC windows and doors to builders across Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama from St Marys.
Councils and building work
Three councils cover the area: Wollongong City Council (from Helensburgh and the northern beaches villages through Wollongong to Dapto), Shellharbour City Council and Kiama Municipal Council. The South Coast rail line and the M1 Princes Motorway run the length of the strip, with Mount Ousley and Picton Road climbing the escarpment.
Apartment buildings make up much of the new work in and around Wollongong's CBD. In the south-west, West Dapto is the city's main urban release area; Wollongong City Council plans for about 19,500 dwellings there over the coming decades, delivered in stages with new town and village centres. The Illawarra-Shoalhaven is also one of the regions covered by the NSW low and mid-rise housing policy from February 2025.
Escarpment bushfire land
Wollongong City Council updated its bush fire prone land map in August 2024, with matching changes to the bush fire chapter of its development control plan. Land along the escarpment is mostly mapped as Category 1 vegetation, the highest category, and the buffer zones reach into the suburbs below. The BAL is assessed for each site, and it sets the construction requirements for windows and doors. Send us the assessment before you specify; we don't make general BAL claims.

Coast, apartments and estates
Beachside homes
From Thirroul to Kiama, homes near the water take salt spray. uPVC frames don't rust, pit or need repainting, and the steel reinforcement is corrosion-protected inside the profile. On exposed, south-facing elevations, check sash sizes against wind class; Schueco publishes CT 70 limits per class.
CBD apartments
Apartment windows near the motorway or rail line need acoustic glass; CT 70 was tested at Rw 47 dB. Low-sill openings may need fall protection under the NCC, and Schueco glass and bar barriers fit CT 70 directly.
West Dapto house types
For project homes, send the window schedules for your range and we'll quote them together. Our 340 WERS ratings let your assessor meet BASIX without upgrading every window.

FAQ
Questions from builders and architects
Do you supply bushfire-prone sites below the escarpment?
Send the BAL assessment first. Wollongong City Council's bush fire prone land map puts much of the escarpment edge in Category 1 vegetation, and the BAL is assessed for each site. We'll tell you what we can supply for that level; we make no general BAL claims.
Do you deliver to West Dapto and Shellharbour?
Yes. We deliver from St Marys to sites across Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama. Give us the address and program when you enquire so we can plan the run.
Are uPVC windows a good choice near the beach in the Illawarra?
The frames suit it: uPVC doesn't corrode or need repainting, and CT 70's steel reinforcement is corrosion-protected inside the profile. Ask us about hardware for front-row sites and send the wind classification so we can check sash sizes.
